Urban Bird Watching Picnic – April 6th 12PM
Join us for the first ever meeting of the Detroit Picnic Club! This picnic will take place in the barricaded neighborhood of the I-94 Industrial Renaissance Zone. Aside from having a picnic, exploring and socializing, we will also be collecting data for a citizen science program called “Celebrate Urban Birds”. We will be looking for 16 birds of the program’s “focal species” list, recording what we see and contributing our data to the Cornell Ornithology Lab.
Don’t worry, no experience is required! X marks the spot!
What to bring:
- Eyes and ears
- Snack or personal picnic (feel free to bring something to share!)
- Don’t forget water or a beverage to keep you hydrated
- Ideas for future picnics
- A plate, a fork and a cup
Other things you may want to bring:
- Binoculars
- Bird identification books
- Other wildlife books you think might be fun to bring
- Sunglasses
- Galoshes, or puddle proof shoes
- Picnic blanket
- Any other devices for looking or listening (magnifying glass? Spyglass?)
- A writing utensil and journal / Sketchbook / Camera
